‘Mountains and Life’ wins prestigious Deauville Green Award

4th July 2017

Green Bay’s epic series ‘Mountains and Life’ picked up its first international ‘gong’ in June, winning Gold at the prestigious Deauville Green Awards.

The Deauville Green Awards recognise exceptional ecological and environmental documentaries at an annual Festival in Normandy, France. 370 films from all over the world were entered for this year’s competition.

The Gold award goes to the ‘Mountains and Life’ episode set in the Canadian Rockies, where conservation efforts are focused on the reintroduction of the iconic buffalo to mountain pastures it last grazed more than a century ago. The film includes spectacular footage of these magnificent creatures arriving at their new breeding grounds 25 miles from the nearest road – by helicopter!

Green Bay’s film also foregrounds the creation of a ‘superhighway’ for North American wildlife, a safe corridor running from Yellowstone to the Yukon.

Green Bay’s Creative Director, John Geraint said: “The whole team here is delighted to win this major international prize against global competition. It recognises the quality of ‘Mountains and Life’, a series we were privileged to film in some of our planet’s most beautiful natural environments. Documenting the challenges of climate change, conservation and ensuring the well-being of future generations in these breath-taking global landscapes was a real privilege. I’d like to thank our broadcast partners S4C, here in Wales, and JTV in South Korea, for the faith they’ve shown in Green Bay in commissioning the series.”

The Rockies episode was directed by Sophie Fairs, produced by her and Wynford Jones, photographed by Haydn Denman and edited by John Gillanders and Bleddyn Rhys.

Other films in the series feature life in the Himalayas, the Andes, and the Alps.

‘Mountains and Life’ is a Green Bay Media production for S4C, Wales and JTV, Korea. It is distributed worldwide by Cineflix Rights.
